At this international symposium of Gulf University, Bahrain Ruairí O’Brien (Head of Architecture and Visual Design Department, German University in Cairo) will speak about his experiences in online teaching and ways to compensate for the missing personal contact.

Columbia Concentration Camp Memorial, Berlin Tempelhof

We are pleased that we were invited to participate in the design competition KZ Columbia as one of only 8 participants in a very well-staffed field. We were able to conclude the challenging and intensive work on the topic in the last weeks with a special design.

„The Path to City Resilience“

On October 10 and 11, 2020 will take place the first Hybrid International Conference “The Path to City Resilience” at MSA University in Cairo / Egypt with numerous renowned experts from the fields of architecture and urbanism. The conference, with a hybrid structure of online and offline formats, will focus on innovative solutions for resilient urban systems and the formation of a dynamic and healthy society. Ruairí O’Brien is one of the main speakers.

The Architecture Summit: Egypt 2020 (Online)

The Architecture Summit: Egypt 2020 takes place from August 6 to 9 in online format. Egyptian and international speakers will share their experiences in the field of architecture. The summit includes various lectures, talks, discussions, architecture competitions, workshops and more.

Ruairí O’Brien is participating in the summit with two lectures/talks:

  • Day 2 – 7th of August, 10:00, „Architecture. From Dusk Till Dawn“
  • Day 2 – 7th of August, 14:00, “The Art Of Good Lighting Design”

O’Brien is a professor and head of the Department for Architecture and Visual Design at the German University in Cairo.

Museum lighting concept for Saxon fire brigade museum Zeithain

This photo was taken during our lighting trial on 9 July 2020 in the Saxon Fire Brigade Museum in Zeithain, for which we are currently designing the new exhibition lighting.
During the realization of the first stage of expansion this year, we tested various lighting options for the permanent exhibition and verified our light planning on the original.

Erich Kästner Museumsmobil

Last Sunday, in the presence of Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer, the MuseumMobil of the Erich Kästner Museum was inaugurated. The “MuMo”, which was conceived and designed by Ruairí O’Brien, is a yellow VW Crafter with a mobile exhibition on the life and work of Erich Kästner inside. It will be on tour in Germany from September and invites people of all ages to discover the Kästner cosmos in an individual and playful way.
