International call for architectural ideas for a memorial in Beirut to Mark the site of the tragic explosion in 2020.
Humankind’s need to confront death, tragedy and loss has inspired great works of art, music, poetry and architecture.
Burial chambers, cemeteries, gardens of remembrance and memorials tell us countless stories and reflect us, our times and our culture.
The need to leave a Mark, to master the scar, is part of a healing process, part of closure, part of starting anew.
It is a great challenge to create a place where people can sense a threshold, where people can communicate with the beyond or just with their inner self, a place where they can find peace in hope or acceptance.
A couple of images from our contribution to the calling for ideas.
